Hmm, Guess I can find myself in the UK winners (not talking about the intl ones, they get recognition everywhere). But it would've been nice to show some love to an artist like jay sean; not that much out there but he DID have one of the best albums..
Posted By Hollanda on 16/10/08

Who is Chipmunk??
Posted By chanelle on 16/10/08

It was a great night overall. Spoilt by the fact that the organisation to get in was pants and we had to listen to Green Light from outside! The awards winners who didn't show up should be ashamed of themsleves! Everyone else was fab but the show did seem a bit short for the money..
Posted By fran on 16/10/08

really wanted Asa to win the Best African act.... but then big ups to 9ice.
Posted By ruz on 16/10/08

I felt some of the British artists that won who weren't there to collect their award let the side down immensely...It seemed to me that if they couldn't be bothered what kind of message are they sending out to the American artists??? The hosts were brilliant and John Legend & Estelle's performance was very good but that's as far as I'd go!Very disappointing...a whole bunch a hoo-haa about nothing!!!
Posted By Sammy on 16/10/08

i really wanted Jay Sean to win!! i thought he would
Posted By ria on 16/10/08

Scotty B deserved to win Best Club DJ. He is, by far, the best Club DJ i have heard in a very long time. Tim Westwood?... an ok Radio DJ, but he doesn't even come close to alot of club DJs i know.
Posted By AntP on 16/10/08

I too feel Leona Lewis' music is more pop than soulful and the award could have went to someone else. This is a BLACK award show right???
Posted By Shay on 16/10/08

i really wantd jay sean to win as well! like... its not fair... people like jay sean need to be given a chance.. a MOBO is just another award on the shelf to well recognised people like Chris Brown. I love his music.. he's already recognised internationally! jay sean totally should have won BOTH his catergories...
HE LOOKED HOT! :P
aaalso.. his performance was SIIIK! :D:D:D x

Although, i wanted Asa to win but alljoin, na 9ja the award still remain....

What a great show. Well done to all the artists and Kanya King who truly deserves an award herself for developing such a fantastic awards ceremony which celebrates great music.

I just wanted to comment on a few things too. Unfortunately, it seems many of you still don’t get what the Mobo Awards are about. The Mobo Awards are about celebrating music which is of black origin. This does not suggest, or mean, you have to be Black to be a recipient of an award. Many artists are influenced by music of black origin. Clearly, people still don’t understand this. Kanya King (Mobo Chief Executive) even had to correct the media when she appeared on BBC Breakfast because they were making a fuss over artists who were white being nominated. She said something on the lines of; the Mobo Awards are about celebrating music of black of origin, and whether your black or white, green or purple, that’s not the defining factor of winning or being a nominee.

In addition, I think the audiences who were at the Mobo Awards need to show a little more respect to artists. For example, all those artists who couldn't be there didn’t just wake up and decide "I can’t be bothered". As someone who works in the industry, I can tell you, that the more success these artists get, the more difficult it is for them to travel the world and be at every awards ceremony. Leona for example, I know she would probably have loved to be at the Mobo's and to perform. However, she is in high demand and she has to be in lots of different places. The Mobo’s are not the only thing she has in her diary, and no doubt, knowing how developing a diary for an artists’ works, she would of had these engagements which she’s at now, planned and contractually agreed last year, before she even knew she had been nominated. And you can’t just drop something unfortunatley because of money and the thousands of people she would be letting down which have help make her career on the otherside of the atlantic.

Leona has devoted herself to performing and appearing as much as she can. Dont you think she would want to receieve an ward too in her own country which recognises her?

Well first time at the MOBOs for mee.
I enjoyedd it alot but we got in just before the show started so we were lucky but i felt for the people who were still in the line.

Ohh and Chipmunk wining Best Newcomer.. : D
Voted for him like 10 times. people hate on him but i think hes soo fine &+ his music is sickk.
The booing was at bit ott but you know especially if your an english artist you should be there. We are trying to promote British Music so people need to be there to promote it. As Tim Westwood said 'Nahh Mean ?'
But Good Night Overall
Well Done Kanya King

x

well done chipmunk! he really did deserve that award!
Posted By sho on 16/10/08

Jay sean shud have defo won a mobo, his album was a really good effort and i believe he is 1 of the underated artists and deserves to be givin credit for all his work.
Posted By Arun on 16/10/08

La'shey u donut. stop hating on ironik just coz u aint anywhere in your life blud. i agree his music is a bit basic but still hes getting p. this is why uk music dont go anywhere because people like u slate everyone who trys to take our music to america. allow you haters!
Posted By luke on 16/10/08

Jade, pop music is of black origin. be educated. even rock is of black origin. go back into history of music. the press may hide the fact but history can never be rewritten.
Posted By femi. on 16/10/08

before i forget, congrats 9ice!
Posted By femi. on 16/10/08

Am really to vote for 9ice as the musician of the year if not him then D banj should be the second cos this two guys are really good.
Posted By Yemi on 16/10/08

does anyone know if the awards are repeated on tv?
Posted By navia on 16/10/08

cant believe ironik didnt win :(
Posted By mixy on 16/10/08

I find the whole concept of these awards just as offensive as most people would find a 'whites only' award ceremony. Good on the artists who didnt turn up, I hope they did it because they disagree with the race based nature of the awards. Let's hope that next year nobody turns up.
Posted By Bryn on 16/10/08

Those presenting the awards needed to be more professional and rise above the audience booing. Next year try to get more black uk talent to perform and do not depend on Americans. No excuse these days.
very proud of the b-mobo award. The MOBOs will get better. let them hate. we all know the Brits would not give any of the winners so much as side glance.

If these awards were based in America you would not hear people shouting rascism for an award show that recognises black music talent and in inclusive.
Posted By SoFrolushes on 16/10/08

well am really happy for 9ice and am very sure he gonna take mtv award very soon, apart from singing in proverb he as take the step of african icon 2FACE IDIBIA.am really happy for him.if not 9ice i would have prefer faze or asa to win the award.KEEP IT UP 9ICE

He has been brilliant this year.
Posted By Craig Newman on 17/10/08

and wots with run rev and especially mel b presenting the show.
terrible decisions - need younger presenters that can be related to.

der all bettah dan her
hng tyt her 4 cummin thru da w factor doee
Posted By Hater on 17/10/08

I Think N-DUBZ should deffinatly won a award...main reason being they have international star quality..they look good, they sound good and they appeal to a wider audience. they should deffinatly of won something just from there tracks "OUCH" OR "PAPA".
Big up chipmunk winning still tho thats massive.
Posted By Ryan Blair on 17/10/08

Does anyone know the song that was being played when Ricky McCalla was walking to collect his award?
Thankssss!
Posted By Suuuu on 17/10/08

big up 2 9ice, i knew he was gonna win it.grammy already smiling at u dude.
Posted By serty on 17/10/08

why there's always people complaining you should all be proud of having this awards, i think black people are recognize, because they're good man, good looking and good voices.
Posted By angellucy on 17/10/08

i think this aawardsa are good, because they even give the chance to recognize good artists from nija, they are good man, what about p- square, they are good. i think black people are good in nearfly everything, good looks and good voices , what else man
Posted By angellucy on 17/10/08

i think every body likes to complain if you have it is because you have it, if not is because you don't at list be happy that you have it, im have indian and we don't have indian awards, here and i don't complain because i like eveybody in this era we shouldn't bother about racism i think there are happening things more important than bothering if this one is white or this is black i think there's space here for every one we are all trying at list let's be happy that there's an awards that can recognize them. peace
Posted By angellucy on 17/10/08

WELL DONE MOBO.

I thought the show was excellent. This year MOBO showed that UK can do it, homegrown talent topped the bill.

Posted By Steve on 17/10/08

Personally I didn't see the MOBOS, but all I'd say is at least they're trying to do something positive. If initiatives like the MOBOS weren't around to promote minority communities in the UK there'd be a couple hundred more idle people roaming the streets and wasting their lives. Only speak if YOU are willing to go out and prove you can do better!
Posted By Miss. P on 17/10/08

Guess this award is all about the immediate hype an recognition an artist is enjoyin presently. For all tha I care, Asa has the best universally accepted African act (no disespect, 9ice isequall very good).
9ice, enjoy (continue to make Africa and Nigeria proud). Thumbs up!!!!
Posted By chimes_o on 17/10/08

9ICE Congratulations!!! You deserve to win and you got the award.

Pls keep the good work of been ORIGINAL Naija to the core.

I love you colabo with Lord of Ajasa and Rugged Man.

Parolo, Omo Adigun Alapomeji
Posted By Paiyee on 17/10/08

Isn't this Mobo thing racist. What kind of uproar would there be of there was a Music of White Origins awards. Is it just me or is this wrong.
Posted By Confused on 17/10/08

I actually voted for 9ice ( ALAPOMEJI ) as far as am concerned he is more than worth the award. Infact the award is too small to compliment his hardwork. He promises to bring GRAMMY awards home,so for all you haters, keep hating while you watch him do his thing and make it happen for REAL. 9ice live your life!!! Congratulations once more..... TWUALE ! ! !

Posted By c dot sumfink on 17/10/08

point of correction to people who said dbanj deserve the award if you think he deserve it you know your point but dbanj is not the right person to win these award even for him to win i prefer banky w who is not nominated to win bcos dbanj is mc on stage he knows how to perform on stage but his songs did not worth it to be given the award they only have beat but there song does not have any value but if you listen to someone like 2face idibia and 9ice,also faze they are the man they are role models.9ice keep it up

Posted By Kayode Adedeji on 18/10/08

First time watching the mobos(on demand) and just seeing so many British/ Black people getting involved with the mobos truely made me proud to be a British citizen I mean look at how many good artists were in the best newcomer nominations and best male, best jazz, best gospel all of the catergories. I didn't know who would have won. Seriously, also look at how many people came like olympic medalists, premier league footballers, rap pioneers, Can I just say the whole thing was fabulous seriously was.And forget those who didn't turn up because they dont matter, especially Leona Lewis.
Posted By Raefel on 18/10/08

Why da hell does WESTWOOD always win best club DJ? What Rampage & Masterstepz 4 flipsake! NEway glad Movado won best Reggae Act & not Sean Kingston like last year. Still would been better if acts like Leona would have the sense to come pick their awards because at the end of the day we voted 2 win Xfactor!

Posted By Temilade Sosina on 19/10/08

ha!!! p'square set me out. Shame on you. I vote for you in order to win but you disappointed me...
Posted By Temilade Sosina(Chicago) on 19/10/08

I think a lot of good artists were overlooked, as always and agree that British artists especially should show respect for this event and attend, that is not good PR for Leona Lewis who is obviously getting too big for her boots already ! She is a pop act anyway.
Good show overall.
Posted By suzi K on 20/10/08

JAY SEAN shuda atleast goh 1 award, even tho he deserved both, buh he got signed wiv chasmoney records that dai which is waiii bigga than winning 2 awardsss!! big upz 2 ma boi JAY SEANN!!!
Posted By prabjot on 20/10/08

Yolanda Brown? Who? I am sorry but is it worth having a jazz award if you give it to someone who sounds like a 6th form music student and has nothing but a good spin doctor team around her. It's a sham, Tony Kofi, Courtney Pine, Soweto Kinch, Empirical, Byron Wallen, Robert Mitchell, Lizz Wright....there's more, people who have albums out, people who have reviews from music press and a reputation? It's embarassing to give this to someone like this, up and coming, rising star whatever but not best jazz act, please!

I think that Jozi should have won the best africn this guys have been doing great they realy deserved to win.As for chris i can't complain he's the best according to me he derseved to win.for estell i can't say i think she's going to be a one hit wonder im not sure about her.
Posted By charlotte on 22/10/08

What the hell is going on? Mr Westwood winning again!!! He should not even been in the running. There is really outstanding black DJ's out there and they are alot better than Westwood.
Posted By Miss P on 22/10/08

Westwood should not have won best club DJ! that shouldve gone to EZ! especially as next year bassline/niche will be all around in the ''charts'' there will be awards for that no doubt. EZ is a pioneer of ukg and all sub genres. Also Rev Run should be able to be related too as one of the key figures in the rise of hip hop with run dmc. obviously there are some people that dont know who he is, but i think if somethings done it sgould be done properly, ie knowing ya hip hop from ya pop inside out!!!! nuff said
Posted By matt on 22/10/08

Also next year i think there should be a catagory for best manufactured pop artist, leona lewis wouldve fell in to this catagory and fitted in well. sorry its just wrong to have someone like her in the main catagory, everyone else works hard to get where they are not handed it on a plate by winning whats effectively a game show.
Posted By matt on 22/10/08

My warm haert goes to 9ce,he is a very tallented musician fro Nigeria.9ce,it's nice to know that you'v won this most coverted award.CONGRATULATIONS

Great work!!! to MOBO
Posted By lanre on 25/10/08

Omg how did Dizze Rascal get the best Male Uk Artist ?????
But congratz to Leona Lewis she is mint grabbing two Mobo awards she is fine ;).
Posted By Jay on 25/10/08

i agree with everyone who has critised leona lewis for her no show at the mobos. as a black women who has come from nothing to where she is, the least she could do is bring herself to an award show that recognises music of black origin!this was a chance for her to be looked upon as a positive role model for other young ethnic minorities and so what they can become! instead she has is yet another black person who feels they has to conform in order to suceed! she needs to remember who she is and wheres shes comes from! a big n major disappointment leona which has resulted in a great loss of respect in the black community!
